Governance and Board Development

  • Evaluate board size and composition, committee structure, development processes, and methods of communication.
  • Educate board members on the role and responsibility differences between the board and an organization's chief executive officer (or executive director).
  • Assist in the development of CEO and board evaluation assessment tools.

Strategic and Operational Planning:

  • Educate board and senior staff members on the nonprofit lifecycle model, using that model to assess the organization's status in terms of governance, management, programs, systems, and funding.
  • Facilitate strategic planning initiatives, including the development or modification of business plans.
  • Assist boards and/or CEOs in implementing strategic work plans, defining goals and objectives, delegating responsibilities, and projecting completion deadlines.

Financial and Internal Control Assessment

  • Compile Form 990 and/or audited financial statement information for a designated period of time; calculate pertinent statistics; identify and analyze relevant trends; and identify opportunities for strengthening fiscal performance.
  • Evaluate existing financial and internal control procedures; make recommendations to improve those procedures.

Program and Outcomes Evaluation

  • Assess existing evaluative tools for measuring outcomes; determine relevance of existing measures; evaluate the system requirements of outcome tracking; and make recommendations for enhancements/modifications.
  • Perform the system analysis required to implement outcome measures at a program, management, or governance level within an organization.
  • Teach staff and/or board members to conduct outcome tracking and performance evaluation.

Best Practices Reviews and Research

  • Educate board and management on the prevailing best practices related to nonprofit governance and management.
  • Conduct research specific to an organization's mission and/or advocacy interests to identify local, regional, or national benchmarks and key evaluative measures.
  • Perform service-specific data analyses.

Systems and Data Management

  • Evaluate existing systems and data storage processes and suggest improvements.
  • Recommend a course of action to meet long-term systems and data management needs.
